Ever popular Crumlin – Dublin 12

Although most famous as the site of the Children’s Hospital, Crumlin is a well established and popular residential area with a rich cultural and sporting heritage. 

Stretching from the River Poddle to the Crumlin Cross, Crumlin borders Walkinstown, Drimnagh and Terenure on the west side of South Dublin, part of Dublin 12.

It’s a dense residential area made up almost exclusively with houses built before 1960, following a major expansion centred on Crumlin Village in the ’50s.

Combining the housing stock with proximity to the city, Crumlin has long been popular with first-time buyers and young families who tend to become rooted in the area, giving Crumlin a strong family appeal. 

Sport and recreation around Crumlin

Sport is a big part of Crumlin’s appeal, with several GAA and football teams in the area, with Crumlin GAA, St James Gales and Templeogue Synge Street being notable examples. Pearse park and the Iveagh Grounds offer extensive sporting facilities, and most of the major Gym operators have sites in the area.

Paul McGrath, Andy Reid and Eamonn Rogers are Crumlin natives, as is Conor Macgregor.

Crumlin has had it’s fair share of cultural figures as well, with Phil Lynott, Paddy Casey, Gabriel Byrne and Christy Brown hailing from the area, Brendan Behan resided in Kildare road and Martin Duffy’s Film “ The Boy from Mercury” is based on his childhood in Crumlin.

Shopping in Crumlin

Although Close to Dublin and within easy reach of Blanchardstown, Liffey Valley and Tallaght Shopping centres, Crumlin has several shopping districts, from Ashleaf at the Crumlin Cross to the Crumlin shopping centre on the main Crumlin Road. They offer the usual range of high street and local stores, with both centres due to be modernised to further improve the shopping experience.

Crumlin’s pubs and restaurants

Attractive to first-time buyers, Crumlin has a wide range of restaurants and pubs, so you don’t have to travel into town for a night out. The Lisle three, Hungry Duck and Hub are all highly thought of, and most areas with have a range of local pubs, like the Halfway house or Birchalls

Schools around Crumlin

Depending on your preferences Crumlin offers a range of Schools, including the Marist National school, Scoil Eoin, Scoil Una Naofa and Scoil Iosagain. Loreto College has a Junior School, and Our Lady’s hospital provides special educational services to children in long term care in the Hospital. Rosary College provides secondary level Co-ed classes as does St Kevin’s College.

Crumlin’s proximity the city and major transport routes have created ample commuting opportunities with multiple Bus routes through the area, including the 17, 18, 27 and 56a, plus easy access to the M50.

What can you buy around Crumlin? 

Most properties in Crumlin date back to the house building boom of the 1950’s so tend to be well established and maintained family properties with gardens and off-street parking, in quiet residential estates.

Crumlin has very few apartments, although planned redevelopment of Crumlin Shopping centre will increase the range, with 2-bed terraced houses offering first-time buyer accommodation.

Population 

Crumlin is popular with families who account for more than 71% of residents. 55% of families have children, but families tend to be long term residents, who stay one once the kids have moved out, lead inn to a stable and settled population who are heavily invested in the community.
