Magical Christmas events in Dublin 12 and 24

Whether your Christmas starts on the 6th or 8th of December, there’s no denying the excitement starts well in advance of the Big day. To help you get into the Christmas spirit, here’s a list of festive events across West Dublin and beyond.

Santa’s Christmas Workshop

The Square hosts Santa again this year, with a Frozen 2 themed Display and a massive Christmas Ferris Wheel, and Ireland’s only 4D VR sleigh ride! Entertainment and Parades will continue throughout December.

South Dublin on Ice

Tallaght Stadium plays host to South Dublin on Ice again this year, giving kids and adults the chance to become the next Torvill and Dean! As well as offering Skate aids, polar bear ice chairs and double skates for less experienced skaters, the rink can also be hired out for parties and events.

If you can’t get to Tallaght, Ice Skating is also available in Dundrum, Swords and Blanchardstown.

County Library events

The Library is hosting a series of events throughout December, Kicking off with a Family Film screenings, board games and hot chocolates, including Frozen on the 14th and The Snowman on the 21st. For the more creative, A Christmas Cake decorating competition is being held on the 17th, whilst Elf Alison will be hosting Christmas Storytime on the 21st.

Bohernabreena Christmas fair

Rosanna hall hosts it’s annual Christmas Craft fair on the 16th of December, providing a range of last-minute craft gift ideas from clothes to Artwork, Cards and Scented candles.

The Santa Experience

Dunnes in Tallaght hosts the Santa Experience again this year Giving Young and old kids alike the chance to see The Elves Post Ofice Santa’s stable and Home plus the Sleigh! Click Here for more details

Panto in Tallaght

Christmas isn’t Christmas without a great Panto and The Civic in Tallaght will host Snow White until the 5th of January which promises to be spectacular festive fun for the whole family.

Further afield, The Gaiety’s Aladdin, Olympia’s Cinderella and Robin Hood in Dundrum, will get anyone into the Christmas spirit

Walk.ie hosts it’s annual Winter wonderland on the 8th, with festive events and a Christmas market in the spectacular Drimnagh Castle.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, how about meeting Santa when he visits his Grotto at the Chocolate Warehouse in Walkinstown, where you can get personalised chocolates or learn more about how Chocolates are made in one of the hands-On workshops?

Dublin Libraries will be hosting a series of family film screenings throughout the Chrismas period, including Walkinstown Library on the 21st. Find out more here. There will also be a live showing of the Snowman at the Library on the 14th at 2.30 PM.

Around Dublin

Farmleigh’s Christmas Market runs until the 17th of December, with seasonal puppet shows and Christmas Storytellers, carriage rides and carol singers to add to the festive food market.

There are over 50 stalls, offering everything from food, sustainable clothing, craft art and jewellery, every Sunday from 12-5 pm.

Dublin Castle’s Christmas Market runs from the 12th to 22nd, with an open-air craft and food market, carriage and fairground rides, supported by Carol singers in the Evenings.

Live showings of Christmas movies are always popular, and this year there is a great selection, including Elf and the Nightmare Before Christmas at the 3Arena and the Snowman at both the BGE and NCH over the festive period.

A special mention also goes out to Retro Drive-in at Leopardstown Racecourse, who’s running a series of “PJ and Pillows Party” showings of Elf and Home Alone over the festive period.

Luggwoods and Airfields both host popular Christmas and Sanat experiences. Airfields are focussing on the tradition with it’s “True spirit of Christmas past” events, whilst Luggwoods invites you to enjoy the splendour of the Dublin mountains with a woodland ride taking you to Santa’s grotto.
